Piotr Sulkowski - conductor
Conductor of Opera in Cracow, music director and conductor of Opera Wildwood
Festival in Little Rock (AR) USA. Founder and director of Chamber Orchestra "Forum
Sinfonia". He studied at the Academy of Music in Cracow, where he finished two faculties
with honours: Faculty of Musical Education (1993) and Faculty of Theory, Composition and
Conducting (1997) in J.Katlewicz's class. Several times he received a scholarschip of the
Internationale Bachakademie in Stuttgart where he participated in conducting courses run by
H. Rilling and J.E. Gardinier. In 1996 within the framework of the scholarship he was invited to
the Oregon Bach Festival in USA for a master conducting course combined with concerts. He also
received the Creative Award of the President of Cracow for outstanding achievementes
in conducting (1995). In 1992 he founded the Sinfonietta Chamber Orchestra (at present
Forum Sinfonia) which he is still conducting today. He has performed with it at many
national and international festivals and also together with the orchestra won 1st place in the
"best performance" category awarded by the Critics' Chapter during the 2nd Forum of Young
Composers.
He is working together with many orchestras at home and abroad
(Sinfonia Varsovia, Cracow Philharmonic, Musical Theatre Roma, and Tupelo
Symphony Orchestra) and since 1993 he is engaged in educational work.. He has been
conducting the chorus and the orchestra of the State Music School in Cracow, with which
he is giving. He co-operates with music theatres in Poland (Roma Music Theatre, Gliwice
Music Theatre) and in USA, where he made premieres of "La Boheme", "Don Pasquale", "Hansel
und Gretel", "La Finta Gardiniera" and "Die Fledermaus". In Cracow Opera he prepared
premieres: "The Nutcracker", "Hansel und Gretel" and "Man of La Mancha". He has also in his
opera repertoire: "Tosca", "Madame Butterfly", "Carmen", "Don Giovanni", "Die Zauberfloete",
"Nabucco", "Faust", "I Capuleti e i Monteschi", "Lucia di Lammermoor", "Traviata", "Fiddler
on the roof", "Oklahoma", "Ubu Rex", "Die schwarze Maske", "Straszny Dwór".
